from Americana or Kimura to Straight Armlock
No-Gi
Convert an opponent's arm-straightening defense from an Americana or Kimura into a straight armlock.
Drill Steps
1
Initiate an Americana or Kimura attack.
- Control the opponent's wrist to aim for a shoulder lock
- Anticipate their defensive reaction to straighten their arm
2
Observe the opponent's arm straightening in defense.
- Recognize their attempt to escape the shoulder lock
- Use their extended arm as an opportunity for the counter
3
Pin your chest directly over their extended elbow.
- Apply heavy pressure with your chest and belly
- Control their arm from extending further to maintain the position
4
Slide your gripping hand deeper onto their forearm.
- Move your hand from their wrist towards your own elbow (Kimura)
- Position your hand high on their forearm (Americana)
5
Apply a reverse motorcycle rev with your forearm.
- Push their hand down towards the mat
- Lift your forearm by rotating your wrist upward to apply pressure
6
Adjust your forearm to be directly under their elbow.
- Ensure optimal leverage for the tap
- Create a distinct gap between their hand and the mat
