X-Pass from Open Guard

This drill teaches a quick pass to secure a dominant knee on belly position when your opponent is sitting upright in front of you.

Drill Steps

Maintain distance from your opponent.

  • Move laterally side to side
  • Prevent opponent from getting hooks

Establish a collar tie grip.

  • Reach for the opponent's neck
  • Secure a firm grip on their collar

Grip the side of the opponent's knee with your other hand.

  • Target the outside of their knee
  • Maintain a strong grip

Cross your arms to make the opponent spin.

  • Initiate rotation on their tailbone
  • Pull with both grips simultaneously

Kick your lead leg up and over their leg.

  • Clear their knee line
  • Step immediately next to their hip

Transition to a strong neon belly position.

  • Apply pressure with your knee on their belly
  • Secure control for points
