Learn the fundamental steps to apply a powerful cross-collar choke from mount

Drill Steps

Establish your first cross-collar grip.

  • Reach deep with your dominant hand
  • grip high on the opponent's collar, thumb inside

Break your opponent's posture.

  • Pull their head down towards your chest
  • use your legs to control their hips

Establish your second collar grip.

  • Use your non-dominant hand
  • grip the same-side collar as your first hand, thumb-in and deep

Create an angle for the choke.

  • Perform a small hip escape to the side of your top hand
  • bring your knees towards your chest to keep them tight

Finish the choke.

  • Pull both hands towards yourself while squeezing your elbows together
  • push with your legs if in closed guard to maintain pressure
