Rear Naked Choke from Back Control

Execute a fundamental Rear Naked Strangle from a dominant back control position, by John Danaher.

Drill Steps

1

Establish back control

  • Secure back control using hooks or a body triangle
  • Keep your chest tight to their back and head close to theirs
  • Insert both hooks inside their thighs and control their hips

Prepare for the choke

  • Bring your choking arm over their shoulder
  • Use your non-choking arm under their arm to control hand fighting
  • Trap or pin their arm to limit defensive grips

Attack with your primary arm

  • Slide your hand below your partner's nech
  • In case the partner has their neck down
  • Use the thumb bone while pulling the fingers inward to create space
  • Bring your hand behind their neck

Bring them closer to you

  • Fall slightly to the choking-arm side
  • Keep your hooks or body triangle tight to pull them into you

Connect your hands

  • Place your choking hand on the bicep of your non-choking arm
  • Bring your non-choking hand behind their head
  • Keep your elbows tight and arms compact
  • Your choking arm should go to the other arm's bicep
  • The non-choking arm's palm should touch your choking arm's deltoid

Finish the submission

  • Bring your head close to your partner's head
  • Put your chin over your secondary hand's wrist
  • Rotate your elbow over your shoulder
