Knee on Belly Escape

This drill teaches a safe and effective way to escape the knee on belly position without exposing yourself to further attacks.

Drill Steps

Grab the opponent's knee with the near hand.

  • Keep your body tight to prevent attacks
  • Hook your fingers around the front of the knee

Plant your far foot and execute a strong hip escape.

  • Drive off your planted foot to create space
  • Keep holding the knee in place with your hand

Immediately shoot an underhook.

  • Use the space created by the shrimp
  • Reach deep with your arm to secure the underhook

Follow through to an advantageous position.

  • Escape to your side and face your opponent
  • Work to recover your guard or take the back
