Lockdown Escape to Top Side Control

A controlled way to escape lockdown or quarter guard by using foot positioning by Gordon Ryan and Placido Santos.

Drill Steps

1

Move to the side of your partner

  • Move the open foot behind the partner's hamstring
  • Drive your weight backward and stay to the side

Trap your partner under your knees

  • Grab and pull your partner's far knee
  • Pull until both knees are under your hips
  • Step your free knee up and over to leg ride

Win the Elbow and Crossface

  • Drop your left elbow to collapse their elbow
  • Pass your hand inside for a crossface

Flatten and Pass

  • Drive the crossface to turn the head down
  • Slide the open knee across and pull your locked leg
  • Free your leg and you are in side control
