This drill teaches a sneaky armbar from side control, catching the opponent off guard when they expect a mount or Americana.

Drill Steps

Establish a throat grip.

  • Use a 'what time is it' grip on their throat.

Check your watch.

  • This makes them look away.
  • Their arm will slightly lift.

Get in position

  • As their arm lifts, begin the swivel.
  • Lean your body towards their legs to create some space
  • Step your leg completely over their head.

Grab their elbow.

  • Secure their elbow with your arms
  • Roll on your back

Pinch your knees together.

  • Keep their arm tight between your knees.
  • Pull their arm to finish the armbar.
