Shrimp Escape from Top Side Control to Closed Guard

This drill teaches a fundamental escape from side control by using frames, shrimping, and bringing the legs in to recover to a closed guard position.
Drill Steps
1
Establish your frames.
- One arm should control the shoulder
- The other arm should control the bicep

Bridge and shrimp your hips away.
- Post with your feet
- Turn your hips slightly away
- Extend your arms to keep the distance

Bring your inside knee between.
- Place your shin against their hip
- Block their side control

Shrimp again to come closer
- Put your foot between their legs
- Keep your knee close to their side
- Control their arm in case it is preventing your movement
5
Bring your second leg over.
- Swing it around their body
- Connect with your other leg
6
Lock your closed guard.
- Secure your ankles together
- Control their posture with your legs
