Single Leg Takedown

Execute a fundamental single leg takedown from a standing position, driving through to secure a dominant top control.

Drill Steps

1

Establish your fighting stance.

  • Maintain a low base with bent knees
  • Keep your head up and eyes on your opponent

Create an opening or reaction.

  • Use hand fighting to clear an arm
  • Feint a different attack to make them react

Level change and penetrate deep.

  • Drop your hips significantly to get under their center
  • Take a long, driving step between their legs

Secure a strong grip on their leg.

  • Grab behind their knee with both hands
  • Keep their knee pointing forward to prevent them from turning out

Drive up with your head glued to their body.

  • Keep your head high on their chest or rib cage
  • Maintain a strong, upright posture as you lift

Lift the secured leg off the mat.

  • Pull the leg high to break their balance
  • Use your second hand to control their far hip or waist

Drive across their body to finish the takedown.

  • Turn the corner towards their back
  • Sweep their remaining standing leg to complete the fall

Maintain immediate top control.

  • Transition directly to a dominant position like side control
  • Keep your weight heavy and secure their hips
