D'arce Choke from Bottom Side Control via Ghost Escape
No-GiGi
An escape to submission drill by Shawn Melanson. The escape transitions defensive movement into an offensive submission as control is reversed.
Drill Steps
1
Create some space.
- Swim your near-side arm inside toward your opponent’s neck
- At the same time, swim your far-side hand toward the front of their body
- This simultaneous motion opens just enough space to begin your escape and entry
2
Escape from bottom side control.
- Punch your far-side arm up toward their hip
- Crunch your head in tight toward your chest
- Start circling your body out, initiating the ghost escape
- Continue the ghost escape motion, turning your body away
3
Control their head
- As you circle, throw your choking arm deep across
- Reach for the back of the opponent’s head
- This will give you a better grip
4
Secure the grip and go deep
- Turn your body toward the opponent
- Connect your hands as soon as possible
- Aim to lock down toward the wrist, not the palm
- Bring your choking arm close to your bicep
- Walk your fingers as high up on their back as possible
5
Finish with Chest Pressure
- Use your chest to compress and close the space
- Apply steady pressure, not explosive squeezing
