Triangle choke from Closed Guard

No-Gi

Execute a no-gi triangle choke from closed guard by controlling both arms, breaking posture, and securing a strong finishing angle.

Drill Steps

1

Establish closed guard and initial arm control.

  • Get an overhook on one of their arms.
  • Pinch their tricep with your armpit.
2

Control their second arm.

  • As they push on you, grip their wrist with thumbs-in.
  • Lock your other hand over it for a C-clamp grip.
3

Break their posture and set up the leg throw.

  • Hip forward to break their posture.
  • Pull the controlled arm across your body.
4

Throw your leg over their shoulder.

  • Ensure the leg coming from under their armpit goes over their shoulder.
  • Keep downward pressure on their shoulder with your leg.
5

Secure the initial triangle lock.

  • Bring your foot to your other knee.
  • Pinch your knees together tightly.
6

Cut the angle for the finish.

  • Grab your shin with one hand and their head with the other.
  • Push off the mat with your foot and hip out to the side.
7

Finish the triangle choke.

  • Keep your foot pointed up to prevent knee lock.
  • Push your knee into their neck to remove space.
  • Turn your leg out and clamp down, engaging your hamstring.
  • Squeeze and pull their head for the tap.
