Mount Escape via Upa (Bridge & Roll)

Escape the mounted position by bridging your hips and rolling your opponent to the side you control their arm and legs.

Drill Steps

1

Secure one of your opponent's arms.

  • Trap their wrist or elbow on one side
  • Keep them close to your body

Control their foot on the same side.

  • Plant your feet close to your glutes
  • Move your foot on the outer side, to prevent them from posting

Bridge your hips explosively towards the trapped arm side.

  • Drive off your feet and lift your hips high
  • Aim to lift your opponent's weight off the mat

Turn your body and roll your opponent over the controlled side.

  • Use your shoulder to direct their fall
  • Follow through with your hips as you turn

Scramble to secure top position or regain guard.

  • Maintain control of their arm or head
  • Be ready to transition immediately after the turn
